An Academic Vision Towards Excellence and Innovation

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Praise be to Allah(swt), Lord of the Worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the best of His creation, Prophet Mohammad, and upon his good, pure, and infallible Household. It is well known that the Department of English Language is one of the important departments within the Faculty of Education. This is evident from the large number of female students admitted to the Department each year, with the number of female students in our Department being several times greater than the number admitted to other departments within the Faculty. Our Department is distinguished by an outstanding teaching and administrative staff, which is positively reflected in the academic level of our female students. The Department also provides a range of resources and facilities that it dedicates to serving our female students and supporting their development to the highest possible levels, preparing them to become teachers, university academics, and successful mothers. Our female students also receive psychological and educational guidance through specialised committees established to help them overcome the challenges they may encounter. In addition, they participate in academic debates, competitions, theatrical and field activities, and a variety of events and activities that strengthen their personalities and empower them to become pioneers in society and distinguished leaders, equipped with a refined and elevated mindset through which they can serve their children and society as a whole. On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the University Presidency, represented by Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultan, the President of the University, and to the University’s senior staff, as well as to the Faculty Deanship, represented by Prof. Dr. Iman Samir Bahiya, for their support of our Department. They spare no effort in extending every possible form of material and moral support to the Department, with the aim of nurturing generations characterised by broad horizons, rich thought, and fertile imagination. I wish everyone every success and our Department continued progress and excellence. And Allah(swt) is the Bestower of Success. Prof. Dr Qasim ‘Abbas Da’eem The Head of the Department

May Allah grant you all success, and we ask Allah to make our department a beacon of knowledge and virtue.

Comprehensive Information About the Department

About the Department

The English Language Department was established in the 2018-2019 academic year, coinciding with the founding of the Faculty of Education. It operates as a single department within the University, with all English professors participating in its programmes and activities. Additionally, the department employs a comprehensive academic work programme that utilises the latest electronic technologies. This programme relies on task description and analysis, taking into account the department's specific vision and objectives, which aim to meet the needs of the community. The department also continuously develops its programme through an annual review by its academic committee. This review, in turn, impacts the department's output, including students, faculty, and administrative staff. The department offers four Bachelor's degree programmes, which have been available since 2019. The department further employs 20 faculty members specialising in various fields such as linguistics, literature, and teaching methodologies, holding academic ranks from lecturer to assistant lecturer. Currently, the department relies entirely on in-person instruction for teaching, examinations, student communication, and providing academic resources. In addition, communication with students is facilitated through a dedicated departmental Telegram group. Furthermore, the department annually holds weekly seminars for the department’s professors and a number of seminars on topics within and outside the specialisation. It also participates in local and international conferences and publishes research submitted by the department’s professors both globally and locally.
